Charlie Sheen Remarks Unbecoming

Charlie Sheen is the perfect example of an employee whose remarks to the public got him in trouble with his bosses. He seemed to think that he was invulnerable to their power over his future and that they worked for him. What he and many other employees think is that they are more valuable to their employers than they actually are.

Like Charlie, many employees who are dissatisfied become vocal and keep digging the hole deeper as they try to win sympathy from others. In fact, their comments begin to polarize everyone around them including their bosses who almost always find out about the badmouthing.

When push comes to shove, it's best to keep your remarks to yourself and do what you have to do to either keep your job, make your job situation happier and more satisfying or leave gracefully and with your dignity in tact without burning bridges. Remember, that a slap in the face to your employer can become a barrier to advancing in your chosen career.

  1. I think Charlie Sheen is not a typical "employee".Look at most of the STARS. They are what makes the show and therefore have some clout that most employees do not have with their bosses. Also it may be that Charie had legitimate gripes about the shows management. Like you say, there are 2 sides to every story. Of course Mr Sheen did not verbalize very well, but I did understand some points he was trying to make. I know my employers never were concerned about what I did after hours as long as I showed up on time and did my job welll.

  2. Thanks for your comment Steve. Since Charlie is a celebrity, perhaps his employers and I say this because they had the power to fire him, felt that his behavior reflected negatively on them and the show they employ him to act in. Some people feel that celebrity brings and comes with the responsibility to be a role model to people who watch them act. I think that's why his behavior created this situation for him. Also, a lot of people might think he could show more restraint or at least be grateful to the people who have given him his career. I think that may be the reason they fired him. He pretty much slapped them across the face.

  3. He made really insulting remarks about his boss. The producer was compelled to fire him to save face. It seems like the "badder" Charlie is the more the public loves him. This whole thing could be for publicity at this point. I predict they will eventually make up.

  4. Saving face is a powerful motivator. I think a genuine apology is the only thing that will bring them together again.

  6. I agree with you that Charlies should have been more civil in his comments, Ultimately, how you treat your employer will determine your employment status. I know that even though I was a well qualified sheet metal worker and did quality work and was very dependable, if I badmouthed my boss , I would not have kept my job. It all boils done to being responsible for our words and deeds. As far as being expected to be a role model, I need to take exception to that expectation. Just look at sports stars, movie stars, and other celebs. What percentage would be considered role models? It would be great if most were, but it obviously does not automatically go with the celebrity position. Sad, sad, sad, but true.

  7. Yup, I agree. There are many good role models among celebs, but some who don't realize how their behavior may impact their fans. I saw in the news the other day that Chris Brown threw a tantrum after an interview. Then later I saw him trying to apologize and at the same time defending what he did. It was obvious that he wasn't sorry and sent the message to young men that it's okay to be out of control as long as you say you're sorry while defending your actions. This is troubling to me.
